Unemployed Stories

receiving a check that was bad

(Huntsville, AL)

I was fired for accepting a check that ended up being reported as stolen. I followed store procedure and three people signed off on the check (1 of those being a manager). I and the other person on duty at the time the check was taken was fired. The manager still works for the store. Will I be able to collect unemployment - state of Alabama.

Hi Anonymous,

If you followed the written procedure and the employer signed off on it and is still working .. I don't see why you wouldn't .. because it lacks the element of misconduct. If the manager approved the check .. it seems to me they may be guilty of the misconduct.
