Despite that unemployment is a Federal program, qualifying for unemployment varies widely, depending on which state you would receive benefits from.
There is also a difference between qualifying for unemployment and being found eligible to receive what you monetarily qualified to receive .. or how much unemployment pays per week .. in your case.
The resulting determination is usually the first one you receive and it establishes your base period, the wages you earned during your base period and then of course, how much unemployment pays you per week for being totally unemployed.
Most people that have worked in at least enough to reach a minimum earning requirement in at two different quarters in the last eighteen months can usually qualify for unemployment.
This determination, like all others can be appealed if you think any part of it .. is incorrect.
But this determination does not tell you if you are eligible to receive the amount the state has said you have qualified for.
This is a condition for eligibility that can be lifted. For example, a doctor medically, releasing you or clearing you to work again. Additionally, for every week you are unemployed you must re-certify your eligibility by completing a "continued claim form". This is usually a series of questions such as whether you looked for work .. refused work .. went to school, engaged in self-employment etc., etc.
It is wise to understand the basis in law for these questions to understand that your answers can create issues to be "resolved".
These questions are meant to determine whether you are complying with the "conditional eligibility" factors that you must comply with in order to continue receiving your weekly unemployment benefits.
